History
VMRay GmbH, based out of Bochum, Germany, was founded by Carsten Willems and Ralf Hund in 2013 based on the work each had done as part of their Ph.Ds they received that year in computer science / IT-security at the Ruhr-University of Bochum. The first production deployment of VMRay technology was in early 2015. This technology was in turn built on their earlier work on automating dynamic malware analysis. VMRay has received seed funding from High-Tech Gruenderfonds. In October 2016 VMRay closed a Series A investment of 3.5 million euros with eCapital as the lead investor. In September 2019, VMRay announced that it has closed its Series B round of funding in the amount of $10 million led by Digital+ Partners, one of the leading technology growth equity firms in Europe, and supplemented eCAPITAL, an early investor.
