Since the adoption of the Twenty-third Amendment to the United States Constitution in 1961, Washington, D.C. has had three electoral votes in the election of the President and Vice President of the United States, and has participated in every U.S. presidential election. Washington, D.C., has voted for the candidate of the Democratic party in every presidential election.
