Success (concept)


Success is the state or condition of meeting a defined range of expectations. It may be viewed as the opposite of failure.
The process of learning is entirely dependent on success. It involves making a prediction and paying attention to the outcome of an event. Success in a discipline or an industry involves a normalisation of expectations.

Etymology

Mid 16th century, 1530s, from Latin successus, an advance, a coming up, happy outcome, from the verb succedere ‘come close after’.
