Shahverdi Khan of Ganja

Shah Verdi Khan, full name; Shahverdi Khan Ziyad-oghlu Qajar, was the first khan of Ganja from 1747 to 1760. He was from the Ziyad-ogli branch of the Qajar clan. His rise to the leadership of one of the independent khanates in the South Caucasus was a consequence of the death of Nader Shah in 1747 and the ensuing anarchy in Iran. He was assassinated by the rebellious people of Ganja. After that, the neighboring Georgians intervened and enthroned Shah Verdi's son, Muhammad Hasan Khan.
