United States
. The
trail
would connect 8 existing
scenic
trails
, and was proposed in
1996
by
Ron Strickland
, founder of the
Pacific Northwest National Scenic Trail
.
The
longest
existing trail in the route is the
North Country National Scenic Trail
, a trail between
New York
and
North Dakota
.
