Ryusuke Numajiri
Ryusuke Numajiri is one of Japan's most sought-out music conductors. In 1990 he won the Besancon International Competition, which catalyzed his career. He was invited to conduct operas at: the London Symphony Orchestra, Montreal Symphony Orchestra, Orchestra Sinfonica di Milano Giuseppe Verdi, Orchestre du Capitole de Toulouse, Orchestre de Chambre de Paris, DSO Berlin, Nagoya Philharmonic Orchestra, Düsseldorfer Symphoniker, Staatskapelle Weimar, Darmstadt, the Sydney Symphony Orchestra, and the China Philharmonic Orchestra. Other positions Numajiri has held include: artistic director of Biwako Hall, music director of Tokyo Mitaka Philharmonia, Principal Guest Conductor and General Music Director at Theater Lübeck.
Numajiri’s first opera conductor role was in 1997 with Mozart's “Die Entführung aus dem Serail.” He also conducted ‘Jonny spielt auf’ at Cologne Opera, Komische Oper Berlin, Theater Basel, Bayerische Staatsoper, Opera Australia and New National Theatre Tokyo as guest conductor.
Numajiri’s compositions include: the “Bamboo Princess” – Princess Kaguya – opera, which well received in Yokohama, Hanoi, and Otsu at Biwako Hall.
Numajiri has introduced the Japanese public to a significant amount of culture, including productions by Louis Andriessen, Luciano Berio, Dutilleux, György Sándor Ligeti, Witold Lutoslawski, Colin Matthews, Olivier Messiaen, Hans Rott and Iaanis Xenakis.
