Polygamy in Sri Lanka is a criminal offence.
Polygamy and polyandry were practiced within the Sri Lanka royal family till the end of colonial period. In the time of the Sri Lankan dynasty, the king was free to have many wives as he wanted, but among the commons it was highly illegal and the offenders would be executed if found.
