Rawson Plateau
in the
Queen Maud Mountains

Antarctica
. It was
discovered
by Captain
Roald Amundsen
while
en
route
to
the South
Pole
in
November 1911
, and named by him for
Helmer Hanssen
,
deputy leader
of the
South Pole
party
.
