The MarylandDepartment of Labor is a government agency in the U.S. state of Maryland. The state changed the agency's name from "Department of Labor, Licensing, and Regulation" to "Maryland Department of Labor" in 2019. Division of Workforce Development & Adult Learning
Workforce Development is responsible for overseeing the State’s workforce programs. Working in partnership with Local Workforce Investment Areas, services include matching job seekers with employers, providing training opportunities and reporting on the needs and demands of the labor market.
Adult Education and Literacy Services, which also includes Correctional Education provides resources to support adult instructional services and GED testing for individuals who are at least 16 years old and not enrolled in school. Programs are offered in all Maryland jurisdictions and provide classes for English language learners and adults who are interested in improving basic skills in reading, writing, and math, or who want to earn a high school diploma through the GED tests or the Maryland National External Diploma Program. Successful completers of both GED and NEDP programs earn a Maryland High School Diploma. In addition, the Adult Education, Adult Correctional Education and GED testing programs from the Maryland State Department of Education are now under Maryland Department of Labor, Licensing and Regulation.
