List of ambassadors of Australia to Ireland
The Australian Ambassador to Ireland is the Australian Government's foremost diplomatic representative in Ireland. The Ambassador resides in Dublin. On occasions the position has had non-resident accreditation as Australia's Ambassador to the Holy See.
The position has been filled in the past by former politicians, some of whom had left their previous position under a cloud. Brian Burke was subsequently recalled, tried and gaoled stealing campaign donations. Vince Gair's appointment was orchestrated by Prime Minister Whitlam in order to help the Labor Party secure control of the Senate. Gair was subsequently recalled by Foreign Minister Andrew Peacock.- W.A. Wynes
