Leonie Kooiker


Johanna Maria "Mieke" Kooyker-Romijn, known by the pen name Leonie Kooiker, was a Dutch author of children's books.

Career

Kooiker was born in Markelo and did gymnasium. She wrote for the children's magazine Kris Kras, before publishing her first book. This book received immediately the Gouden Griffel. With her book Het Oerlanderboek she won the Vlag en Wimpel award.
Some of her books are also translated.
Kooiker wrote stories in which fantasy and reality intertwine. The characters in her books are ordinary children in exciting situations.
She died in Papendrecht, aged 92.
