Kokumo
Kokumo is a musician, poet, and activist from Chicago. Kokumo, who is herself a Black transgender woman, won a Lambda Literary Award in 2017 for transgender poetry with her book Reacquainted With Life. The book discusses transphobia and racism but also critiques the culture around activism.
In 2012, Kokumo was the lead organizer for the first trans march event to take place in Chicago. In 2013, Kokumo released an EP of her music titled There Will Come a Day, with a music video for the title track meant to bring awareness towards violence affecting trans women of color.
