Hutovo fortress


Hutovo fortress or Hadžibegov Grad ', also Hutovski Grad''', is a fortress in Bosnia and Herzegovina, municipality of Neum.

Location and name

It is located on narrow road leads from Hutovo Blato toward Neumu, below mountain Žaba, westward na brdu od Hutova. Situated at the strategic position, atop of the hill overlooking pass, often traversed by salt caravans from Ston toward inland. Name Hadžibegov Grad derived from the last lord's name, Hadžibeg Rizvanbegović.

Description

It is formed in the form of an irregular pentagon. At each corner there is a tower, total of nine. The walls are tight and high. Within the city is a spacious plateau. The fortification stretches in east-west direction. The length is about 70 m and the width is about 50 m in the eastern part, up to 30 m in the west. Walls are constructed in such a manner as to being able to defend every fragment with a firearms.

History

Contemporary usage

The society of Friends of the Old Hutovo use town historical settings for local celebrations.

Protection

in Sarajevo commenced revitalization in 1969.
On 10 may 2004 Commission to preserve national monuments of Bosnia and Herzegovina designated "historic site – Hutovski grad " Nationaln monument of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Fortress and movable finds – three slabs with inscriptions, exhibited in Country House museum's lapidary in Hutovo.
