Haematococcus
Haematococcus is a genus of algae in the family Haematococcaceae. Members of this group are the common cause for the pink color found in birdbaths.
One of the most distinguished specie of Haematococcus is H. pluvialis, because it is usually used for cosmetic products due to it produces astaxanthin in stress conditions, a powerful antioxidant carotenoid.
