First Republic (Dominican Republic)
The First Republic of the Dominican Republic began on November 6, 1844 with the proclamation of the first Constitution, and culminated on March 18, 1861 with the annexation of the country to Spain. During these 17 years, with a fragile State and under constant threat of Haitian invasions, there were 8 governments.
