El Dorado High School (Arizona)


El Dorado High School is an AdvancED-accredited public charter high school located in Chandler, Arizona. A part of the Leona Group multi-state network of charter schools, El Dorado serves students in grades 9-12 and offers a curriculum aligned with Arizona state standards in a safe and student-centered small school environment.
Students at El Dorado benefit from small class sizes and personalized instructional methods designed to meet differing learning styles.
El Dorado High School offers students a comprehensive schedule of educational, athletic and community service activities. The school participates in the Canyon Athletic Association Arizona sports league, and offers a series of competitive sporting opportunities to students, including football, cheerleading, basketball and baseball. The school also supports a competitive co-educational powerlifting team, as a part of the Natural Athlete Strength Association powerlifting organization.
El Dorado High School also enjoys educational and vocational partnerships with a number of community organizations and institutions, including Arizona State University, the East Valley Institute of Technology, Chandler-Gilbert Community College, Grand Canyon University, Carrington College and Mesa Community College.
The school, which first opened in 1998 in Chandler, and which typically begins its school year in August, hosts a number of campus and community events throughout the year.
In November 2015, the school hosted its third annual “Taste of El Dorado” food festival and charity fundraiser, offering students, families and community members an evening of food sampling featuring local restaurants and eateries.
Restaurants hosting sampling at the annual school event included such established Chandler eateries as Rudy's Country Store and Bar-B-Q, FrinGo's Puerto Rican Kitchen, The Hungry Monk and Which Sandwiches. Other well-known restaurants such as Buffalo Wild Wings, Dunkin’ Donuts, Krispy Kreme and Hungry Howie's Pizza also joined the festival, which served as a fundraiser for the Cardon Children's Hospital NICU at Banner Desert Samaritan Medical Center in Mesa, Arizona. Proceeds from the event were delivered by El Dorado students to the children's hospital, as part of the school's community service commitment.
In February 2016, El Dorado High School hosted the 2K16 Leadership Conference in partnership with Arizona State University's Global Institute of Sustainability and other companies and organizations, including Nike, Harkins Theatres, the Superstition Review magazine, the U.S. National Guard, the Princeton Review, EVIT and the City of Chandler. More than 160 students from 10 middle and high schools joined the students of El Dorado High School for a day of leadership training and career skills seminars, along with informational sessions on the topic of global environmental sustainability. The 2K16 Leadership Conference will serve as an annual event for the school, bringing together young leaders of tomorrow with local experts in business and environmental careers.
El Dorado also hosts a yearly Science and Career Fair, featuring student displays created as part of the school's popular Forensic Sciences program.
As part of its regular school calendar of events, the school also hosts its ongoing “El Dorado Speaker Series,” bringing in community leaders from a variety of disciplines to meet with students and impart career advice. This year, campus speakers have included Chandler City Councilman Kevin Hartke, Chandler Assistant City Manager Nachie Marquez, former NFL player Juan Roque, local attorney and radio host Marc Victor, Arizona State University professor Bertha Manninen and Chandler Fire Chief Scott Wall.
