Eastern chat-tanager
The
eastern
chat-tanager
is a
species
of
bird
formerly placed in the family
Thraupidae
.
It is found on
the island
of
Hispaniola
where it is now
restricted
to
central
and
southern
parts of the
Dominican Republic
. It formerly also occurred on the
Samaná Peninsula
as well as in
Haiti
. In the
southwest
of Hispaniola, it is
replaced
by the
western chat-tanager
, which was formerly considered
conspecific
.
Its
natural
habitats
are subtropical or
tropical
moist
montane forests
,
subtropical or tropical dry shrubland
, and
subtropical or tropical high-altitude shrubland
. It is
threatened
by
habitat loss
.
