Background and development
saw her first concert when she was 16 years old, as J Boog performed in Guam. She immediately gravitated towards the song "Let's Do It Again", and was inspired to remake it with a pop spin as a tribute towards him. She recorded it later that year in 2013 with producer Nic Nac. Two years after "Do It Again" finished production, Mia was in a studio session with Chris Brown and Tyga, when Nic Nac played the track for them. Both artists loved it and asked her if they could appear on the song. She immediately accepted and included them, as she believed that they would amplify it over a million times, and was touched by their genuine interest in the track. In an interview with Vice, Mia described the lyrics of the song as "wanting to be more than just friends with someone you're really close with, but you haven’t crossed the line yet." She denied rumors that it was about a one-night stand, stating that she never had one before so she could not speak on it.The pop-R&B, and hip hop track was one of the earliest songs recorded for her debut studio album, as she finished it before signing a deal with Interscope Records. Mia constantly fought the label for "Do It Again" to be released, which she believed that the song "was my heart". She eventually left Interscope without releasing a studio album, explaining that the songs released during her time there were chosen by the executives. The single was released on digital download and streaming formats on May 4, 2015, and distributed to rhythmic radio stations on May 19, 2015. It was written by Pia Mia, Jerry Afemata, George Veikoso, Marc Griffin, Tyga, and Nic Nac.
