Delhi College of Arts and Commerce , is a constituent college of the University of Delhi, in New Delhi, India. It is situated in Netaji Nagar, with various prominent residential societies and commercial ventures in its proximate neighbourhood. It is well connected by the Delhi Metro, the nearest stations being INA and Bhikaji Cama Place, as well as by road transport, through both bus routes as well as auto rickshaws/ e-rickshaws from the nearest Metro/ bus station. With the newly constructed Sarojni Metro station commuting to college has been further be eased.The famous landmark to DCAC is The Leela Palace which makes it easy to reach. The College was established in 1987 under the aegis of Delhi Administration once the erstwhile G.D. Salwan College closed its operation. Though it is now an entity independent of the Salwan Trust, yet in its formative years, it transformed out of the erstwhile G.D. Salwan College that was located in Rajinder Nagar. The college presently operates in a building owned by the Department of Higher Education, GNCTD. Despite the infrastructural constraints posed due to a non permanent self owned building, DCAC has earned the distinction of being one of the most sought after colleges, not just in South Campus, but also Delhi University as a whole. DCAC was also the pioneer college in Delhi University to introduce a three year Honors Programme in Journalism in July–August 1989. DCAC has a campus area of approximately 5 acres, with a built up area of around 2.5 acres. The college offers 18 undergraduate courses leading to the Bachelor with Honours/Programme Degree with various paper options for students to choose from both under the CBCS mode and the erstwhile semester/ FYUP mode. The college also offers various add on and self financed courses. Till 2013, the college, in collaboration with ILLL, also offered an add on English Language Proficiency Course, Basic Level to give students practice in using English in a wide variety of contexts relevant to work, study and social activities. Besides this, in 2015, the college also collaborated with National Skill Development Corporation, which has since been supplemented with the Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana Scheme. The college has also been making various efforts and initiatives to integrate cross cutting issues as gender, climate change, environmental education, human rights, ICT, etc. through various cells, societies and community outreach programmes. The college can boast of alumni like Mr. Rahul Verma, Social worker and activist, founded the Uday Foundation; Mr. Nalin Mehta, Senior Journalist, Former Managing Editor of Headlines Today; Mr. Rahul Kanwal, Senior Journalist, TV Today Networks, Mr. Rajesh Ranjan Singh, Senior Journalist, Punjab Kesari Group, Mr. Cyrus Sahukar, VJ and Bollywood Actor; Ms. Rekha Rana, Bollywood Actress and theatre artist; Mr. Vinil Mathew, Ad filmmaker and Bollywood film director; Mr. Gursimran Khamba, Comedian of AIB fame, among others. In the government sector, the most recent additions to the list of such achievers are former students who have cracked the UPSC Civil Services Examination 2018, Mr. Shubham Gupta and Mr. Suraj Shaji, both of whom have joined the Indian Administrative Service. The college was ranked 7th best for Arts and 6th best for Commerce in Delhi by India Today in 2017, making it the best ranked co-ed college of south campus, Delhi University for the year in both Arts and Commerce streams . The same year, it was also ranked 11th best for Arts and 15th best for Commerce in the country by India Today. The rankings vary each year depending upon the merit as well as on who publishes the rankings.
Admission
To take admission in Delhi College of Arts and Commerce you have to go through the same procedure as of taking admission in any other college of Delhi University for the undergraduate courses. You have to fill the centralized application form for Delhi University and then meet the respective cut-offs for the different courses which are offered by the college.
Student life
The college hosts an annual cultural fest called Ambrosia. The various departments and societies host their fest respectively with pomp and show. There is a PG area for students from outstation at the back side of college and further more they can stay up in flats in Satya Niketan.The college holds a good record of scholars and also the societies have already made their name in the competitions with at central level.
