Jabarkhyl, an ethnic Pashtun, was born in Jalalabad in Afghanistan’s Nangarhar province. He is the grandson of the notable Ismatullah Khan, who carried the title Hashmat al-Mulk. Ismatullah Khan was the State Minister of Afghanistan in the Nineteenth century and had played an influential role in Afghan politics during the Anglo-Afghan Wars. Today, Dawood Jabarkhyl is the acknowledged leader of the renowned Jabbar Khel tribe. In his early years, Jabarkhyl graduated from the Military Academy in Kabul. Like millions of Afghans, he was forced to flee the war in the 1980’s and settled in London. Having set up successful businesses in the United Kingdom, Jabarkhyl returned home in 2004 to help with the rebuilding of his nation.
Career
Jabarkhyl has a vision to empower the disenfranchised people of Afghanistan and brighten the future of underprivileged societies by investing in their skills, health and education to empower them to help themselves. Upon his return to Afghanistan, Jabarkhyl established Tanweer Investments with an aim of providing sustainable employment opportunities for Afghans in several sectors. To date, his operations has employed over 6000 Afghans directly, and impacted over 25,000 indirectly. In 2010, Jabarkhyl partnered with the United Arab Emirates to establish an initiative aimed at tackling economic hardships faced by underprivileged Afghans. The social enterprise was originally established to initiate a change in the stark realities of Afghanistan’s women and children. The initiative, known as FBMI, invests locally in healthcare, education, numerous social and economic reforms; and provides employment in the several sectors. About 70% of FBMI employees are women & widows who work from home. Each employee receives free vocational training, medical care and schooling for their children. . Jabarkhyl has appeared at Afghanistan's executive Loya Jirga. He has also been honoured, on several occasions, to accompany high-level delegations including Afghan PresidentHamid Karzai on trips to Paris, Amsterdam, London, Kuwait. Currently, in his role as advisor, he focuses on attracting private sector investment into the country and promoting ties between Afghanistan and the Gulf Arab states, particularly the United Arab Emirates. In close cooperation with government entities in the UAE and Afghanistan, Jabarkhyl’s office promotes business and trade between the two nations, with a particular emphasis on the global trade show, DubaiExpo 2020. Prior, he has advised organizations including the World Health Organization, International Organization for Migration, UNICEF, USAID, the Norwegian Government, and several other private institutions.
Philanthropy
Jabarkhyl's foundation works on assisting the youth and women of Afghanistan, and enabling their right to contribute towards bringing peace and prosperity to the country. He has invested in many areas to provide employment opportunities, free healthcare, free education and women's affairs assistance to the impoverished women of Afghanistan. The foundation has also assisted many international organizations in building schools and hospitals in Afghanistan. His model of social commitment has been implemented in the form of self-sustainable businesses, providing opportunities and services that empower individuals to eliminate poverty, enhance their lives and contribute to society with dignity. These models are mostly implemented in rural villages and remote areas of Afghanistan where realities remain stark. Jabarkhyl has received several honorary awards for his work in the humanitarian field. In addition the initiative chaired by Jabarkhyl, FBMI, has received appreciation for its strong social commitment, including being recognized as the leading UAE Humanitarian Project, being awarded the Arab Woman Award in the Humanitarian field, among many more. Additionally, Jabarkhyl has implemented many programmes for local Afghans to equip them with skills and help them integrate into society. One of these programmes has been implemented in Kabul Women's Prison, where employment opportunities are provided to detainees in order to develop skills and re-integrate back into society upon release. Jabarkhyl often distributes philanthropic donations to the needy across Afghanistan.
