Columbia Terminal Railroad
The Columbia Terminal Railroad, Columbia Branch Railroad, or COLT is a local, short-line, freight railroad in Boone County, Missouri owned by and serving the city of Columbia, Missouri. The railroad runs from Columbia to the Norfolk Southern Railway mainline in Centralia. Formerly, the line carried passengers to the Wabash Railroad Station and Freight House in Downtown Columbia, Missouri. The line was created by the Boone County and Jefferson City Railroad Company, incorporated 1857. Construction began after the American Civil War and was completed by 1867.History
Many companies have operated the railroad throughout its history including: The Boone County & Jefferson City Railroad; The North Missouri Railroad; The St. Louis, Kansas City & Northern Railroad; The Wabash, St. Louis & Pacific Railroad; The Wabash Western Railway; The Boone County & Boonville Railway; The Columbia & St. Louis Railroad;The Wabash Railroad; The Norfolk & Western Railroad; The Norfolk Southern Railroad; and currently, the Columbia Terminal Railroad. The towns of Browns Station and Hallsville were stops along the railroad. In 2012 a full history was published by Marty Paten.
