Chaubara Tehsil


Chaubara,
, is a tehsil located in Layyah District, Punjab, Pakistan. The market town of Chaubara is the headquarters of the tehsil.
Tehsil Chaubara has the largest of any tehsil in Layyah District.
Tehsil Chaubara consists of 7 union councils i.e. Nawankot, Khaira wala, Jamal choupre, Shear Garh, Rafique Abad, Aulaq thal kalan and Chaubara.

People

People wear the shalwar and kameaz. They also wear lungi instead of shalwar as a traditional dress and they wear Pagri or Pattca as their traditional dress and this is considered as an honour for them. They also wear sindhi cap and put Ajrak or Saraiki Ajrak on their shoulder in their traditional dress.
Whereas girls wear Dopata and Burqa and they wear shalwar, Qameaz of different designs. They also use traditional jewelry.
Almost all peoples are Muslims.
Most common castes are Gujjar, Arain,Gill, Bodla, Bajwa Cheema Pathan Lashari Baloch,Aarbi Baloch, Butt, Panwar of Rajpoot clan,LAIL,, known as Malik, Bappi, Magsi, Joiyea, Jagwal, Tanvarea, cheana, Goraya,Sial, Kanwera, Bhati, Bhook, Mochi, Nahraa, Garwah, Saharan, and Kheara.

Language

Saraiki is a local language, almost all people speak this. But Urdu, Punjabi and English are also spoken.

Occupations

Most people are farmers by profession and raise domestic animals for milk and meat. Small ruminants are basic source of income, and black and white grams are the most cultivated crops in this area. Wheat and cotton are also grown. This area has great potential for forest cultivation. Under-soil water is favorable for cultivation to some extent. Wheat is second major crop which is lack behind just due to shortage of water. People are awaiting for Thal greater canal for generations. This canal will irrigate large area of land which will help to alleviate the local production as well as GDP.
Many people also serve in government jobs in different fields.

Weather

Weather is relatively hot but nights in the desert of Thal are cold even in summer.

Desert

There are dunes of sand and unmeasured desert everywhere.
The Thal Jeep desert rally and camel dance festival occurs every year. And peoples from different areas come to participate and watch.
