Brighton Icebergers


The Brighton Icebergers are a cold-water swimming organisation based in Victoria, Australia.

History

The Brighton Icebergers were founded by former school teacher and former Mayor of Brighton John Locco who ran for Council at one point when the Brighton swimming baths was in danger of closing, the Icebergers swim near the baths.
The Icebergers are prominent for swimming in very cold water, one of its members Ted Baillieu was once Premier of Victoria.
Another prominent member of the Icebergers is Dan Canta who was trained by record breaking swimmer John Van Wisse.
One member of the Icebergers was initially concerned with the dredging in the Brighton bay.
Five degrees the Icebergers known to swim in at 5.30am.
In 2010 some of the icebergers saw a shark in the Brighton bay Locco dismissed the seriousness of it stating that sharks are seen there all the time.
The Icebergers had a dispute with the Royal Brighton yacht club over membership in 2015.
Locco while Mayor of Brighton engaged Brighton baths manager Mark Greene in a punch up the 1990s which resulted in Greene's sacking.
Locco had a brother Frank who died while snorkeling in the Philippines.
The Icebergers have been declared one of the things that make somewhere a real baysider and that Dendy beach is where the Icebergers swim in Victoria.
At least one of the Icebergers swim long distances when out in the ocean off near the suburb of Brighton.
Locco carried Sam Soliman out on his shoulders after Solimnans victory in Germany.
