Assyrian Policy Institute
The Assyrian Policy Institute is a non-governmental and nonprofit organisation based in the United States that primarily advocates for the rights of Assyrians but also other minorities in the Middle East such as the Yazidis and the Mandaeans. The Assyrian Policy Institute advocates for the necessity of the presence of the Nineveh Plain Protection Units in the disputed area of the Nineveh plain due to its positive correlation to the number of returnees to towns and villages in the Nineveh plain where the NPU is in control. The API is independent of the Assyrian American National Federation but still maintain a degree of co-operation with the federation. The Assyrian Confederation of Europe is considered to be the European counterpart of the Assyrian Policy Institute. During the COVID-19 pandemic, the API signed a joint NGO statement with other NGOs such as Nadia's Initiative and Yazda that highlighted the risks posed to vulnerable populations in Iraq. Reine Hanna, the current director of the Assyrian Policy Institute, has criticized the Iraqi constitution for not including and taking into consideration the rights of Assyrians and other minorities.
