Ashutosh Agashe


Ashutosh Agashe is an Indian cricket player and businessman. In his youth, he played the Ranji Trophy. He is currently managing director of Brihan Maharashtra Sugar Syndicate.

Early life

Agashe was born on 21 October 1972 into an entrepreneurial Chitpavan brahmin family of businessman Dnyaneshwar Agashe and wife Rekha Agashe. He is the grandson of industrialist Chandrashekhar Agashe. He has one brother and one sister. He was married to Shalini Phadke, a descendant of the Patwardhan Dynasty, from 1997 till 2013. He graduated with a BCom degree from Brihan Maharashtra College of Commerce in 1994.

Cricket career

Agashe played cricket under his college, the University of Pune, before he represented his home state of Maharashtra in the Ranji Trophy and played for the Maharashtra cricket team from 1997 to 1999. His batting style is the Right-hand bat and his bowling style is Right-arm medium. He has also played List A from 1996 to 2000. Agashe was part of his father's Maharashtra Cricket Association committee as a representative for the Club of Maharashtra.

Business career

Agashe began as director to Brima Finance Ltd in 1994, and has been managing director at Brihan Maharashtra Sugar Syndicate since 1996. He played a key role in establishing the partnership between Howling Wolves Wine Group of Australia and Brihan Maharashtra Sugar Syndicate in 2005 which planned to set up a wine production base in India. He has been director at Agashe Brothers Financing Company since 2009 and Baumgarten and Wallia since 2010.
He was elected the chairman of Suvarna Sahakari Bank for the year 2004-5. He was one of the directors implicated during the Bank's alleged scam in 2008. As managing director of the Syndicate, he received the DSK Group Energy Award of 2007 for corporate implementation of energy efficiency improvement measures.
