Arathia


Arathia was a city and bishopric in the late Roman province of Cappadocia Prima, Asia Minor, whose ecclesiastical metropolis was at Caesarea. Its location is unknown. The bishopric was revived as Latin Catholic titular see in the 18th century.

History

The ancient city was important enough to become a bishopric in the late Roman province of Cappadocia Prima, in the sway of the Patriarchate of Constantinople, but would fade completely, plausibly at the advent of Islam. Neither its precise location is known, nor any residential bishop.
The diocese was nominally restored as Latin Catholic titular bishopric no later than 1755 under the names Arathia / Arata / Arath / Aratia / Arathen / Arathien.
It has been vacant since 1853, having had the following incumbents, all of the fitting Episcopal rank :
