Alagappa Alagappan
Alagappa Alagappan was an Indian-born American, and the founder of the Hindu Temple Society of North America.
Alagappan was born on December 3, 1925 in Kanadukathan, India. He earned bachelor's and master's degrees from Presidency College in Madras. He earned a master's degree in international relations from the London School of Economics and Political Science, studied law and was called to the British bar.
Alagappan went on to be a journalist before working for the United Nations.
In 1970, he founded the Hindu Temple Society of North America, initially operating from his living room.
