2012 East Ayrshire Council election East Ayrshire Council are to be held on 3 May 2012, the same day as the other Scottish local government elections . The election is the second using 9 new wards created as a results of the Local Governance Act 2004, each ward elected three or four councillors using the single transferable vote system a form of proportional representation . The new wards replaced 32 single-member wards which used the plurality system of election.Election result Note: "Votes" are the first preference votes . The net gain/loss and percentage changes relate to the result of the previous Scottish local elections on 3 May 2007 . He resigned his Council seat on 17 July 2015 and a by-election was held on 1 October 2015. His seat was held by Elena Whitham of the SNP. ††† Kilmarnock East and Hurlford SNP Cllr James Buchanan died on 28 October 2016 after a short illness.
