2010 Grand Slam of Darts


The 2010 Daily Mirror Grand Slam of Darts was the fourth staging of the darts tournament, the Grand Slam of Darts organised by the Professional Darts Corporation. The event took place from 13–21 November 2010 at the Wolverhampton Civic Hall, Wolverhampton, England. Television coverage of the tournament was covered by ITV Sport, with live coverage on ITV4.
Although 8-0 down at one stage, Scott Waites made a remarkable comeback to defeat James Wade 16-12 in the final, becoming the first, and as of 2019, only member of the British Darts Organisation to win this event.

Qualifying

There were numerous tournaments that provided qualifying opportunities to players. Most tournaments offering a qualifying position for the winner and runner-up of the tournament, however the World Championships and the Grand Slams offers a place in the tournament to all semi-finalists. There were also various other ways of qualifying for overseas players, including those from Europe and the United States, as well as a wildcard qualifying event open to any darts player.

The PDC decided to no longer invite Martin Adams to the Grand Slam due to his decision to turn down three consecutive invitations in 2007, 2008 and 2009.

Additional invitations to compete in the 2010 Grand Slam of Darts were awarded on 5 November to :

ITV Wildcard

The ITV Wildcard qualifier was held at the Metrodome in Barnsley. Any darts player was able to enter and the top four players receiving invitations to the 2010 Grand Slam of Darts. The qualifiers were Wes Newton, John Henderson, Mark Hylton and Justin Pipe.

PDC Order of Merit

was the highest non-qualified player from the PDC Order of Merit.

Players Championship Order of Merit

The Players Championship Order of Merit ranked all PDC players by their winnings in 2010 PDC Pro Tour Players Championships.
Colin Lloyd was the highest non-qualified player from the Players Championship Order of Merit.

European Order of Merit

The European Order of Merit ranked all the European dart players based on the amount of prize money that they have won from tournaments held in continental Europe.
Vincent van der Voort was the highest non-qualified player from the European Order of Merit.

Qualified Players

Qualification changed from the 2009 event, with the winners of two BDO tournaments, the Women's World Championship and the Winmau World Masters, no longer being invited. Instead, four places were made available for the finalists of two new tournaments, the PDC Under-21 World Championship and the PDC Women's World Championship.
