successfully defended her title, defeating Martina Navratilova 3–6, 7–5, 6–1 in the final to win the Women's Singles tennis title at the 1989 US Open.
Notably this was the final Grand Slam of six-time US Open champion Chris Evert and her final tournament. She lost to Zina Garrison in the quarterfinals.
