1988 Wimbledon Championships – Women's Singles


First-seeded Steffi Graf defeated the record six-time defending champion Martina Navratilova in the final, 5–7, 6–2, 6–1 to win the Ladies' Singles tennis title at the 1988 Wimbledon Championships. This was Graf's third step towards completing the first, and so far only, Calendar Year Golden Slam.
After Graf took a 5-3 lead in the first set, Navratilova won six straight games allowing her to win the first set and take a 2-0 lead in the second set. Graf then came back winning 12 of the next 13 games and the match.
The semi-final match between Chris Evert and Navratilova was the last time they faced each other in a Grand Slam, with Navratilova extending her lead in their head-to-head rivalry in Grand Slam tournaments to 14-8.
