successfully defended her title, defeating Andrea Jaeger in the final, 6–0, 6–3 to win the Ladies' Singles tennis title at the 1983 Wimbledon Championships.
Billie Jean King became the oldest semifinalist at a Grand Slam event at 39 years, 7 months and 9 days old, an Open Era record. Chris Evert Lloyd's loss in the 3rd round broke her streak of 34 consecutive Grand Slam semi-finals. She had made the semifinals in her first 34 Grand Slam appearances between the 1971 US Open and the 1983 French Open.
