Överstelöjtnant is an officer's rank in Finland and Sweden, senior to Major and junior to Överste.Finland
During peacetime, an everstiluutnantti is the commander of a battalion or a chief of staff for a regiment or brigade. The rank requires completion of a staff officer course. Only a few reservists have obtained the rank of everstiluutnantti. It requires active participation in national defence and a demanding wartime position.Sweden
Lieutenant colonels serves as commanding officer of a battalion or second-in-command of a brigade. As staff officers, lieutenant colonels serves as section heads, heads of function or qualified staff officer. Lieutenant colonels belong to skill levels C or D.
